Powers of Satin explores the underlying structures beneath the satin textile pattern. We know satin by a long list of adjectives--shiny, luxurious, feminine-- but few realize that it is only a set of instructions for binding thread.

The piece shows three objects that are satin, though only one looks like satin. A small piece of handwoven silk satin, a paper with the weaver's notation for satin, and a 2x3m piece of satin woven with a kilometre of 10-mm-thick cotton rope.
