Custom software has been created during my PhD research to explore two connections between textiles and programming. The first is a programme that can navigate the space of patterns related to the classic houndstooth software by manipulating the underlying algorithm of houndstooth. The following page presents screenshots from the software.
The second programme investigates the behaviour of analogies to the computer bug in traditional satin weaving patterns. If the weave is an algorithm, what happens when something goes wrong? The second page presents a scan of handwoven satin with errors introduced by the software.
