{"id":43,"date":"2011-03-25T20:02:35","date_gmt":"2011-03-26T00:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sintheta.org\/mcgene\/?p=43"},"modified":"2015-12-16T23:44:24","modified_gmt":"2015-12-17T04:44:24","slug":"birth-and-death-details-from-public-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sintheta.org\/mcgene\/?p=43","title":{"rendered":"Known\/Unknown &#8212; Birth, Life &#038; Death Details from Public Record &#038; Best Guesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have only one incontrovertible\u00c2\u00a0piece of information about Frank and about his father and his grandfather. \u00c2\u00a0They all have the same relatively rare male Y-chromosome (E1b1b1c1a, Y-M84, L117) as had his three sons, and have his nine grandsons and more than eight great grandsons. \u00c2\u00a0Virtually no other McCallum male can\u00c2\u00a0have that Y-chromosome.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, no other substantiated information exists for Frank\u00c2\u00a0prior to his first Saskatchewan land acquisition in 1910 when he would have been about\u00c2\u00a019 or 21\u00c2\u00a0years old. \u00c2\u00a0No birth certificate, orphan or adoption related documents have been found yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From his Military Attestation Val Cartier, Quebec, Canada September 1914 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em> Birth:<\/em> Detroit, 27 October 1891 (Unsubstantiated. \u00c2\u00a0He may have been born in 1889 or on\u00c2\u00a0some other DMY.)<\/li>\n<li><em>Apparent age:<\/em> 23 yrs 10 months<\/li>\n<li><em>Height:<\/em> 5&#8242; 3 1\/2&#8243;<\/li>\n<li><em>Eye Colour:<\/em> Blue<\/li>\n<li><em>Hair Colour:<\/em> Brown<\/li>\n<li><em>Skin:<\/em> Medium<\/li>\n<li><em>Girth:<\/em> 37 1\/2&#8243; Expansion: 4&#8243;<\/li>\n<li><em> <span class=\"font6\">Discharge certificate:<\/span><\/em><span class=\"font5\"> 13266 June 15, 1919<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Optional\u00c2\u00a0Places of Birth, Early Life, Orphanage, Adoption, &#8220;Boarding&#8221; as farm laborer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The options are:<\/p>\n<p><em>Option 1:\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>From Frank&#8217;s son, Jim:<br \/>\nFrank was born on board a ship as his family migrated to America.<\/p>\n<p><em>Option 2:<\/em> Detroit\/Wayne County, Michigan &#8212; From Frank&#8217;s Canadian WWI Military Attestation &amp; his application for Saskatchewan land in 1927. \u00c2\u00a0No other documentation exists.<\/p>\n<p><em>Option 3: <\/em>Based on DNA cousin and other records.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>St. Louis, Missouri<\/li>\n<li>Saginaw &amp; Millington, Michigan and area \u00c2\u00a0(Marginal Addendum to Military Attestation listed Miss Clara Trywitz\u00c2\u00a0 (sp?), 277 Winter street, Saginaw, Michigan. \u00c2\u00a0A Clara Lugiewicz (later Clara Midcalf) lived at that location.)<\/li>\n<li>Chicago, Illinois<\/li>\n<li>Pocahontas County, \u00c2\u00a0Sherman Township (Havelock),\u00c2\u00a0Iowa (see 1900 Census\u00c2\u00a0item 13, Stover farm boarder )<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Benolkins: Additional information\u00c2\u00a0relevant to placing Frank in the mid-West<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1901 (+\/- 1\u00c2\u00a0year) Frank connected with the Benolkin family emigrating from\u00c2\u00a0Beardsley, Big Stone County, Minnesota to Dundurn, Saskatchewan where they acquired land and where Frank lived and worked for a number of years until he acquired land at Hanley, some 20 miles away. \u00c2\u00a0They remained friends for life. \u00c2\u00a0No one knows how or where it was on their respective journeys that they met and joined up. \u00c2\u00a0However, Beardsley is 260 miles NNW from Havelock, Iowa and virtually on a straight line to\u00c2\u00a0Dundurn, Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benolkin in Minnesota Census \u00c2\u00a0Big Stone County\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>http:\/\/www.censusrecords.com\/Search?County=big%20stone&amp;o=CensusYear&amp;page=7<\/p>\n<p><strong>Death:<\/strong> Apr. 19, 1955<br \/>\nSaskatoon,\u00c2\u00a0Saskatchewan, Canada<br \/>\nHomesteader at Vanscoy, Sask., 1911-14; served overseas WWI; farmed at Hanley, Sask., following the war.
