{"id":131,"date":"2013-10-05T22:54:33","date_gmt":"2013-10-06T02:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sintheta.org\/mcgene\/?p=131"},"modified":"2013-10-06T21:44:26","modified_gmt":"2013-10-07T01:44:26","slug":"second-cousins-surface","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sintheta.org\/mcgene\/?p=131","title":{"rendered":"Second Cousins Surface!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to get your hopes up, or mine, but the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">first<\/span> 2nd and a related 2<sup>nd<\/sup>-3rd cousin have just surfaced on 23andMe. \u00c2\u00a0Since their files appeared on 23andMe at the same time, they are highly likely to be sisters and likely once removed, that is, of the same generation as my sons. \u00c2\u00a0They are much less likely to be 1<sup>st<\/sup> cousins to each other.\u00c2\u00a0 They are almost certainly not mother and daughter.<\/p>\n<p>What does all that mean? They would be descendants of \u00c2\u00a0Frank\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sibling(s).\u00c2\u00a0 Amazing.<\/p>\n<p>We know that Frank went back into the US several times looking for a brother.\u00c2\u00a0 We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know when Frank or his brother were orphaned.\u00c2\u00a0 We don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know if either of his parents survived, or had any other children.\u00c2\u00a0 We may be about to find out some of this.<\/p>\n<p>On 23andMe, these two new cousins\u00c2\u00a0share the most genetic material with me outside of my brother Brian and sons Jon and David.
